A. At the first court appearance, the clerk/judge will read the charge(s) against the young person
to make sure that he/she understands them. The young person will be asked to plead guilty
, not guilty or reserves their plea. If he / she reserve the plea, the judge will grant an adjournment to give the young person time to talk to a lawyer. If he/she pleads guilty the judge might proceed to sentencing, if he/she pleads not guilty, the judge will set a date for trial.
