Court of King's Bench of Alberta
The Court of King's Bench is the Superior Trial Court for the Province, hearing trials in civil and criminal matters and appeals from decisions of the Court of Justice. The Chief Justice and other Justices of the Court are also judges of Surrogate Matters, which has jurisdiction over probate and administration of estate matters.
The Court of Queen’s Bench is organizing a group bar call in each of Edmonton and Calgary. We are interested in providing this service to articling students who do not wish to have a private ceremony while maintaining the option of the individual bar call for others. Our intention is to commence this initiative in the summer of 2019. The dates are July 26, 2019 (Edmonton) and August 9, 2019 (Calgary). Chief Justice Moreau will preside over the ceremony in Edmonton and Associate Chief Justice Rooke will preside over the ceremony in Calgary. Further details of the group bar call will be provided in the upcoming weeks. Bookings for the group bar calls will be available in May. There will be a maximum of 25 students in each city. The deadline for booking has been extended to May 31, 2019 at 4:00pm. If you have questions or concerns please contact Suzanne Vickers at suzanne.vickers@albertacourts.ca.
