Judicial Ethics

Judges make a formal, public promise—the judge’s oath—to uphold judicial ethics, the principles and standards of conduct expected of them.

The ethical principles that Court of Appeal judges are required to follow include:

  • judicial independence
  • integrity and respect,
  • diligence and competence,
  • equality, and
  • impartiality.

If you believe the conduct of a Court of Appeal judge is improper or feel you have been treated unfairly, you can file a written complaint with the Canadian Judicial Council (CJC).
