The Court of King’s Bench will be on a holiday sitting schedule December 23, 2024, to January 3, 2025, inclusive. Justices will be available to hear urgent matters, emergency protection order reviews and bail reviews in Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer and Lethbridge on December 23, 2024 and January 2 and 3, 2025.
On December 30 and 31, 2024, a Justice will be available in Edmonton only to hear emergency applications only for the entire province. Please note that only emergency protection order reviews and emergency matters will be heard on these dates. Should an emergency matter need to be heard, a clerk will be on stand‐by in each Court of King’s Bench location. If required, the clerk in Edmonton will contact the local stand‐by clerk, who will arrange to open the courthouse, file the necessary documents, and facilitate the hearing via telephone or video conference.
Holiday closure signage will be posted at all Court of King’s Bench locations. Anyone with an emergency application will be directed to contact the Court of King’s Bench in Edmonton at 780-643-1137 (Extension 4), where staff will be available to assist the Justice in determining whether the application is truly an emergency and to provide directions on filing documents.
The Court of King’s Bench will resume regular sittings on January 6, 2025.
